To evaluate how you did for your persuasive speech, use the following prompts to explain the process you went through to research, organize, write, practice, and present your speech. Because you are explaining the process, you should write in paragraph form, using multiple sentences to provide details of what you did rather than simply answering the questions with one sentence. Your evaluation MUST be at least 2/3 page in length, double spaced typed using 12 point Times New Roman font with regular present margins.

Researching facts:
  • What were some strengths and weaknesses of your facts and statistics?
  • Do you think you had enough evidence to back up your claims/opinions?

Organizing the Structure:
  • How was your attention getter received by the audience?
  • Listening to other speeches, what was the best way that other people gained attention? How was yours stronger than your peers? How was yours weaker than your peers? Explain one of your peer's attention getter and why it worked better or worse than yours.
  • What was the strongest of your three claims? Why? Which was the weakest? Why?
  • How did your solution compare with other solutions offered?

Writing the speech:
  • What persuasive words did you use to help sway the audience?
  • Explain one area where you think you could have used more persuasive techniques in your speech.

Practicing for presentation:
  • What did you do on your own at home to prepare for your speech?
  • Do you think this was enough time devoted to it on your own? Why or why not?

Presenting the speech:
  • Evaluate how you did with fluency, eye contact, smooth transitional movements, voice inflections, rate, and gestures.
  • How did your level of practice affect your level of comfort with these aspects of your speech?
